As a Chicago resident who cares about high heating bills, I urge you to support a plan to move away from expensive, dirty natural gas. Peoples Gas has set profit records for five straight years, but the utility's customers in Chicago are getting slammed with high bills. Volatile market prices and the utility's reckless spending have helped plunge many customers into a heating affordability crisis. About 1 in 5 Chicagoans are having a hard time affording their heating bills. Plus, gas is bad for our health: Nearly 70% of the dangerous greenhouse gas emissions produced in Chicago come from buildings. Natural gas is only making things worse–for our pocketbooks and the planet. We need a smart, responsible Clean Buildings Plan that will help Chicago move away from natural gas in a way that is affordable and equitable. As your constituent, I urge you to support and pass a Clean Buildings Plan for the City of Chicago so that we can heat our homes in a cheaper and cleaner way. Thank you.
